We
are looking for a committed and results-oriented professional who thrives in
fast-paced environments and is ambitious to building a robust network of
philanthropic supporters across the US. This role focuses on cultivating and
managing relationships with a wide range of funding partners - including
global, private, corporate, and family foundations, as well as high-net-worth
individuals (HNWI).
The
Development Manager will play a key role in advancing EMERGENCY USA’s mission
by expanding its donor base and enhancing the organization’s visibility and
impact within the philanthropic sector.
The
Manager will work under the guidance of EMERGENCY USA’s Board of Directors and
will report functionally to the International Development team based in
EMERGENCY’s Head Office in Milan, Italy.
Key
Responsibilities
- Business Development: Identify and cultivate relationships with prospective foundation partners
and major donors. Lead negotiations and direct engagement with key
foundations and donors to expand EMERGENCY’s support base. Evaluate
partnership opportunities to align with strategic objectives.
- Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong, lasting relationships with strategic
foundations, corporates, and other partners. Act as the main point of
contact, offering trusted advice and ensuring alignment of interests.
- Sustainable Income Generation: Secure long-term funding from global, private, family and corporate
foundations possibly through multi-year grants. Collaborate with
colleagues globally to explore new partnership opportunities and maximize
fundraising outputs.
- Partnership Strengthening: Regularly update and report on partnership progress. Coordinate site
visits and ensure consistent recognition for donors across EMERGENCY’s
activities and materials.
- Grant Management: Develop and deliver compelling proposals that align with partner interests and EMERGENCY’s priorities. Lead the preparation and submission of accurate, timely, and high-quality narrative and financial reports, in accordance with donor guidelines.
- Executive Support: Serve as the primary liaison with the
Board of Directors, ensuring they are regularly informed and updated through
regular meetings, reports and memos.
- Collaboration
with EMERGENCY Head Office and Affiliates: Serve as the primary liaison between EMERGENCY
USA and the broader EMERGENCY organization, collaborating with colleagues and
teams to develop the US affiliate in alignment with shared goals and strategic
objectives.
Qualifications
- Experience:
- Previous strong experience in a
similar role with NGOs, Foundations, International Organizations, DAF,
etc either overseas or US Head Office level.
- Solid understanding of and
genuine interest in philanthropic funding mechanisms, both USA and
international, gained through experience either in the field or at Head
Office level.
- Proven success in securing and
managing major gifts and philanthropic grants.
- Technical Knowledge:
- Familiarity with grant-making
rules and regulations of US private foundations.
- Proven track record of securing
significant grant and donor funding, consistently meeting or exceeding
income targets through strategic relationship-building and compelling
proposal development.
- Experience in grant management,
managing project proposals from conception to implementation, including
budgeting and reporting.
- Knowledge of global health and
development issues, including healthcare programs, health systems
strengthening, and humanitarian crises would be a plus.
- Skills:
- Demonstrates strong stewardship
and communication skills by cultivating and maintaining meaningful
relationships with donors and partners, ensuring timely follow-up,
transparent communication, and thoughtful recognition to foster long-term
engagement and trust.
- Ability to communicate with a
range of different audiences, with experience of public speaking a
desirable asset.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office
Suite, with particular focus on Excel, and CRM systems. Familiarity with Salesforce is a plus.
- Additional
Experience (preferred):
- Previous field experience is a
strong asset.
- Advanced degree in international
development, international relations, global/public health, or a related
field.
