EMERGENCY is an independent and neutral international organisation founded in 1994 to provide free, high-quality medical and surgical care to victims of war, landmines and poverty.
EMERGENCY promotes a culture of peace, solidarity and respect for human rights. We work in a sustainable way: building healthcare facilities, training local personnel, and conducting search and rescue missions in the Mediterranean Sea.
TYPE OF CONTRACT: fixed term contract (6 weeks), which includes a monthly salary, travel expenses, board and lodgings, insurance cover (liability, health and accident insurance), a period of paid leave.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The main duties and responsibilities of the SAR Doctor are:
- Diagnostic guidance, care, planning of medical activity on board with appropriate use of drugs and supplies referring to existing guidelines and protocols;
- Appropriate activation of medical evacuations of clinical cases that require it;
- Multi-professional collaboration with different socio-medical and logistic profiles on board;
- Clinical data collection;
- Ongoing sharing of activities with the rest of the staff on board and EMERGENCY Medical Division.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
- Medical Degree and Specialization preferably in Emergency Medicine or Internal Medicine or Anaesthesia and Resuscitation;
- Registration as physician in the municipality of residence;
- Proven professional experience in independent practice;
- Professional experience in the emergency field;
- Proven knowledge of major manoeuvres/therapies in critical patient management;
- At least 6 weeks ‘availability;
- Good knowledge of the English language (B2 of the European Framework);
- Knowledge of French and Spanish will be considered a plus
- Previous experience in humanitarian missions abroad is considered preferential requirement;
