ROSTER POSITION FOR: Life Support SAR
TYPE OF CONTRACT: fixed term contract (3-6 months), which includes a monthly salary, travel expenses, board and lodgings, insurance cover (liability, health and accident insurance), a period of paid leave to be taken at the end of the mission.
The SAR Cultural Mediator role requires both the specific skills to match the needs of migrant people with the services available and a good knowledge of search and rescue operations management.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The main duties and responsibilities of the Cultural Mediator are:
-Linguistic and cultural mediation for search and rescue operations;
-Linguistic and cultural mediation before and during medical examination;
-Linguistic and cultural mediation in support to the psychologist, if necessary;
-Management of the migrant group during the rescue phases both on board ship and on the RHIB.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
-Professional experience in the field of health and social services or in organisations (public or private) which deal with immigrants or poverty alleviation;
-Willingness to work as part of a multidisciplinary team;
-Ability to work and problem-solve in high-stress situations;
-Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree or professional qualification as Mediator;
-Great ability to adapt to team community life and living conditions at sea, including reduced living comfort situations (cleaning and cooking shifts, cold weather, and seasickness) is required;
-Knowledge of the following foreign languages is required: English, French and Arabic.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
-Previous professional experience in search and rescue operations;
-Previous experience in RHIB rescue activity.
